Pictures of the Floating, Fleeting World.
My first Body of Work was created when I was seventeen.
It explores the ethereal scenes of beauty by looking at the world from a different perspective using aerial photography.
My images take inspiration from Japanese Ukiyo-e, which means ‘the floating world’, and refers to being mindfully present in the current moment. By cropping the images, the audience is challenged to question what they see in each given moment as the shapes, colours and textures found in the natural world become abstracted, highlighting the irregularity which gives nature a surreal beauty.
I have also taken inspiration from Katsushika Hokusai’s Great Wave and Romanticism, celebrating the awe and power of nature, and also Impressionism, as I aim to capture the effects of light and colour to bring out the Impressionist’s painterly qualities in my images.
